Old journals

I'm feeling a bit depressed today. Depressed as in deflated not as in clinically depressed. Sometimes I think I need a man to make my life great. I know I'll love having a family of my own but I am making my life great, starting next year and possibly even now with my Maritime Museum volunteering and hopefully 2 new jobs. And yet I still wake up feeling like I have nothing to get up for. I don't see my friends as much as I would like. I am jealous when I hear of friends hanging out all the time, but life gets in the way, different schedules and different interests. It makes me sad.

I was reading Something Sweet's blog in bed last night on my phone [HTC Desire] and she posted about LJBook, a website that will save your journal into a PDF file and I'm going to do that, maybe even put it into a book. I'm glad I've got it there, even if it's not as detailed as it could be, regarding surroundings and happenings in the world or what general life consists of. It might be the latter actually. Life now, daily, I read 2 blogs here, those of Something Sweet and Skunkboy Creatures. I play games on Facebook, potter around the house, watch lots of DVD's, mostly seasons, and do not much at all. That's why I'm a bit depressed about it.

One new thing I do like is the Caesar salad from Liveeat. I might get that today before or after getting my RSA reprinted from Drysdale before going to my interview for Pier One at Wrest Point. Sarah said they ask you questions, like what have you done for a customer, so I hope I can wing it. I hope Pier One isn't too fancy. I just need the job to be able to transfer to Sydney.

Shopping with some Oomph! on the side

I went shopping today and got some boots, some socks to wear with the boots [even though I'm not sure they look good] some conditioner for the boots to make them last longer, I put a black and white stripy jacket on lay-by at Cotton On, a black t-shirt from Big W to go under the dress I got from Sydney and some knee length track pants to wear at the gym. I'm all set!

I applied for the job at Oomph! today. I went into the address they had on the ad and it was life a coffee shop in a warehouse. It was strange but cool. I'm not sure if that's the place it will be at but if it is that's fine with me. They had outdoor furniture for the tables and chairs and the beans towards the back. Strange but cool. I wonder if I'll hear back from them.

Shopping makes me happy. I forgot I had to spend money on the flights to Sydney. I guess I'll have to do that next week. Mum said I could borrow the money and book them though, so maybe I'll ask about that tomorrow, or tonight when they get back from dinner with friends. I'm home alone so I might go and watch a movie soon. Full from dinner at Cool Thai with Sarah. Errrg.

To tattoo or not to tattoo?

I've been thinking about tattoo's again lately. My surname one on my left wrist has been put on hold to find a better font as Holly thought I might be better off with something more flowy instead of the plain one I had but I'm not so sure anymore. I like that the plain squareish one is fit into a particular boundary. I like that it's simple so I might just stick with that. She gave me some websites to have a look at regarding text on the body tattoo's so I might have a look before I do anything. I like the simplicity of it. I might just stick with this design.

I've also been rethinking about the lovely heart tattoo's Katie from Skunkboy Creatures has on her arms just above the elbows. I think they are great but I'm not sure if I'd ever get them. I really adore them though. Arr.

It's a different spot, and I really like that about them, but that spot is not hidden away [probably a good thing]. I usually wear long sleeves so I could hide them if I wanted to, especially from my parents. They shouldn't be hidden though. My brother got a tattoo and they're fine with it. I'll have to show them my wrist one [when I get it] and they'll accept and understand. They'll get used to it.

Looking up

Things are finally happening, finally getting sorted. Tomorrow I have an interview at Wrest Point [our casino] for a job at Pier One, their fancy restaurant, and I think I have a real shot at it. If I get it, next year I can transfer to Sydney as they, being the Federal Group, have a business there. Hopefully I can work Monday to Friday evenings there and get Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday work at Oomph!. That's my ideal job work plan. I'd also stick at thebeach for Saturday and Sunday's, unless I have to change that because of Pier One. We will see. After that tomorrow I'm going to check out the Roller Derby practice in Moonah and get some information. They won't be taking new members until December/January so that rules me out doing it here but I still want to go along. The lady I talked to on the phone said people train for a year before being in a game. I also called up the Maritime Museum and they're sending me out some applications for volunteering so I'll be able to start that in a month or something. I'm excited! Hopefully all goes well with both of these jobs and I have news to tell you.

C is for Cassie at Polyvore

Last night I did some research on Cassie Ainsworth from Skins and her clothes. One sparked the hunt in particular, her white skeleton dress, which she wore as a nightie, so I did a Google search and some Polyvore sets came up. The Polyvore sets all have details of where to get the items so today it's my plan to track them all down from the websites and make a list of great things I want to buy.

The first is the skeleton dress. I did a search in Top Shop and it came up with something very different to what Cassie wore. I liked that she wore it as a nightie as there were other sets with the dress but it looked weird with clothes over the top and underneath. It's a strange item. Maybe this different one will work alone.

I like the length and the sleeves on this particular dress, even though it's nothing like the original I was hoping to find [it was a few years ago mind you] but it might have to do. If it doesn't cling to the bottom, then I might be able to wear it out normally and not just limit it to the bedroom, although either would be fine with me in Sydney, hanging in my house.

The original skeleton dress Cassie wore

I definitely like the longer sleeves on the grey one. It's £35 which equals around AUD$59 so whether or not it's worth spending the money for is another thing all together. I should save up for certain items though as it'll be worth getting it in the end.

In another direction all together, I came across the cutest parasol in a search. I have found it at the Ladies Empirium and it is called the Battenberg Lace Parasol in white.

I can imagine myself sitting in a park with this as my protection from the elements. I always liked it when Carrie from Sex and the City would carry and umbrella on a sunny day. It seemed so feminine and proper.

Another area I love of Cassie's style is her knee-high socks. I have found some at Urban Outfitters and at Free People but my problem is having large calves so I need big boots to balance it out, otherwise I look weird. I know my legs look weird at work as my shoes are slim-lined and it makes my legs look weird. I have normal knees but bigger calves and smaller ankles and feet. I don't have model nice legs unfortunately so it makes it hard to feel comfortable wearing flats. I'll have to get some leg warmers to compromise with.

Now I'm looking at track pants on ae.com, a cute site with some outfits by Aerie that I really like. At the same time I'm writing a cover letter for the position at Oomph!. Better concentrate on that for a while. More clothes later.

My week starts tomorrow

I'm not sure what my thoughts are at the moment. I know I have things to write about but whether or not my mind forms the thoughts in preparation to be transformed into words on my blog is another thing. I know I have plenty to write about my visit with Holly and what she said about Yorick. It was nice hanging out with her at her boat. Made me want to create cool creatures like her robots, something as awesome, but I don't have the idea. I dabbled with my sushi rice balls and owls but it's not a fantastic idea. Some of her vintage fabric is awesome. She said that Yorick is with the Ebony girl because she's young and low maintenance and is into all the crap he's into and because it's not serious. She said that if he were alone he'd actually have to face himself and who he is and he wouldn't be happy. At Dani's engagement party I'm not going to let too much slip and not talk to him much. I'll make it so I can walk away at a moment's notice and say "ahh, I see someone else..." or something. "I need another drink." I'll get away. He can come to me if he wants to talk. I'll be looking cute though so that will make me happy. I'm glad I have my life back.

I've been working a bit lately. I need more work though. Tomorrow I'll organise a cover letter for the Oomph! job advertised in Saturday's paper. Annie from thebeach mentioned it too so it'd be good if we both got it as there are two wait staff positions. There is a Monday to Friday 9-2 position and a Tuesday to Friday and the occasional Saturday for 35 hours or something. I'll take what I can get! Monday to Friday would be nice. I'd want to stick at thebeach for 2-3 nights on the weekend but then having Monday off after a Sunday at thebeach would be great as I'm always pooped by the time Monday rolls around. Yorick mentioned a while back that he was going to apply there for a barista position but I don't think he has yet. The website says there are 3 sites, whether or not they are all coffee shop serving locations I'm not sure, so we might not work together if we both got jobs there. We'll see. I'll apply and ask questions later. I need the work desperately.

Sarah and I went to the movies today to see Step Up 3 3D. I'd already seen it in Sydney but loved seeing it a second time as I noticed some more of the little things that I didn't the first time around. While we were watching it, I thought how I want to do roller derby. It has nothing to do with the film but I saw an ad in a local newspaper called Sauce [it has info about music events around the state] for roller derby in Tasmania and I thought that I may as well give it a go or at least call up and see how fit and good at roller skating you have to be as I'm neither. I loved some of the music on Step Up 3 so Sarah downloaded most of it today. I'll probably listen to it in bed after watching some Skins season 2. I'm a seasons addict but I love it.

I need some track pants for the gym. I know I won't feel comfortable in the shorts I got. Maybe there will be something in Big W that I can check out on Wednesday or something. I don't have the money now until I get paid on Wednesday. Once my arm is fully healed from getting the Implanon removed I can start going to the gym again. I don't want to lean on it for push-ups in classes and hurt it. It's not that bad, it aches sometimes as there was a cut made to remove it. Sarah wants to do Zumba with me so hopefully we'll do it tomorrow. I do want to do dance classes to get fit and flexible and roller derby! Got to ring them up tomorrow and check about fitness and skill level. Hmm. I wanna be active! Ya ya ya!

Future furniture

I've been finding more furniture I want to have one day. Hopefully I can have this first one in Sydney! I think it's just great! I'll have to save lots of money for furniture. It's a shame I'll probably have to sell it once I've finished in Sydney. I can always buy more in the UK once I'm done in Australia.

Wicker egg-shaped chair.

From now on I'm going to scout out great furniture pictures as well as generally great room setups and post pictures of them, and keep them in a folder of apartment inspiration. I need to see visuals, otherwise I forget and get sad when I don't have anything beautiful like this. I have to have reminders.

My sister just wrote me a message saying that she saw Yorick out on the town last night and told him he's an idiot or something, that he asked why, and she said because he's dating a young emo loser. I'm glad he knows that not only his friends think he's being an idiot but then again I do feel sad for him. He has such a crap looking life. I mean, what is he doing? Where is he going? I know you don't always have to have a direction but the only place he's going is down, down, down, and he's wasting his life and his talent. He is so bright but he's not doing anything worthwhile with his life and I think that's the saddest thing. I don't really want to see him at Dani's engagement party but I suppose I will have to. I won't go over to him, but if he talks to me I'll talk to him then move on quickly. It'll be interesting seeing him and his new fling [I really want to know how it all happened and how they are together so I might do some spying] that's for sure. Maybe I can invite Holly along. Or maybe she's already invited as she's with Ruben and Ruben and Dani are friends. Hmm. I love having her support there, she always puts things in perspective. I hope Emma is there too so we can get drunk together. Please say someone other than Sophie is there, as she'll definitely go talk to the boys and I'll probably be alone. Arr.

My future Sydney apartment

I'm going to get this bedspread and take it to Sydney with me. I think it will remind me of my goal after I get my second degree or certificate -- that I want, and will get, to go to the UK and live and work and visit my family all the time. I want to move over there, to live in a cute little cottage, and find my future husband.

I like thinking about how my Sydney apartment room will look like. Hopefully I'll get a cute apartment/flat/studio for myself in Glebe close to Uni that will be all mine that I can decorate however I want. I imagine myself getting just a mattress with this fabulous duvet set on it, with some cute shelves and second-hand furniture. It will be very basic but as long as I have a TV, DVD player, some of my DVD's and a laptop [might have to invest in a new one] then I'll be okay. I would have loved to live in Manly near the beach but it's so far from the Uni I'd have to spend a lot of time travelling and I don't want to always be going through the city. I want to be close to Uni as that's what I'll be there for and only go to town when I want to. I think that's the best way to do it.

I saw a cute second-hand furniture store on the main street in Glebe. Lots of couches outside on the street for example. I'll definitely have to go in there and find myself a bargain. I'll need a few tables to work at and sit at for dinner, a couch or armchair, and a chair. Not much really. I think it'll be a great experience not living with much.

Something like this would be cute, to hang my keys on and put my mail on. I've always wanted one of those, even one to sit on with a mirror. I have a few in mind, one from Gilmore Girls and one from Sex and the City. I just love the idea of having a little table with possibly a bowl for keys, a space for letters and my phone and wallet or bag, somewhere to sit and be organised, a place for my daily planner. I like Carrie's one in her New York apartment with the mirror on it too. Something along those lines would be fantastic. This picture isn't the greatest but it's close to what I'm thinking.

I would also like a really cute armchair to sit in and relax in. I've always wanted one but have never gotten one. There is a great looking one in The Sims 2 that I love. It's stripy and just how I picture the one I would like so that's a must on my list. I hope that once I'm in the UK I can start collecting great furniture. The only bad thing is I have a great chest for clothes that I got from Mt Nelson but there is no way to transport it cheaply, not that I know of. One day it might be worth looking into. I really love it. I will spend the rest of the year planning my Sydney apartment!

My weekend in Sydney

While I was in Sydney, I wrote my journal posts on a little note pad so I think it's time I typed them up. I do love having a journal. Sometimes I go back through them, not very often, but it's great having it there to look back upon. It's also my therapy. So here is my weekend in Sydney:

* Just a note. I keep changing tense throughout so please ignore that.

Day 1. Friday 27th August.
I had an early start this morning. Dad drove me to the airport in horrid weather but it was lovely seeing the snow down so far on Mt Wellington. Once at the airport I checked in and made my way through to the lounge to wait for my slightly delayed flight. I saw Scottie Brown from work and we had a bit of a chat, but it's one of those relationships that you wouldn't feel comfortable sitting next to the person while waiting for a plane. We wouldn't have had much to talk about so I went off by myself and listened to my MP3 player, something I hadn't done in a while because my car player is out of action [that's the time I listen to my music]. The flight eventually came and we got on board and started the trip to Sydney. The flight was quicker than I thought. I imagined it taking 2 hours when it only took around 1.5 hours. I had a nice chat to a lady next to me in the aisle and watched a cute family with kids running up and down, imagining my life like that one day. Once we landed, I found my way through the airport and got directions to the shuttle bus service to my back packer's. The drive was crazy! He sped up through orange lights and went too fast; everyone was talking about it on the bus. I chatted to some nice ladies on the bus and once I was alone, the last passenger to be dropped off, I had a call from the Federal Group representative and we talked about my wanting to stay in Hobart and that she would give my application to the Hobart rep. By the time the call was finished I was at Base, and after I settled in and figured out my plans I hit the streets. I started at King's Comics on Pitt Street in the opposite direction of the city. It was great! So much stock. The manga wall at the back was amazing. I saw some titles I knew and some I wanted to get. I buy my manga online though as they always have what I want. I'm not a fan of ordering books in. I like dealing with it all online. After King's Comics I walked all the way up Pitt Street towards the Bridge and Opera House and looked in some shops on the way. There was a dress I had a look at in this cute store, but it wasn't right. I got some postcards and lollies and a V, then went back to Base for a rest. I was feeling a bit lonely at that stage. It was a trip I felt would have been better done with a friend or a boyfriend. Mum called and we had a bit chat about it. She said to take note of how I'm feeling as it might be an indicator of whether or not Sydney is right for me. It's not a quick trip home and I don't know many people but it all depends on how I feel for the rest of the trip. At that stage I thought it might be better to go to Melbourne, but then again they don't have the Masters and the Uni is ugly. I shouldn't let being scared turn me away from the better Uni. It would be different from when living in Sydney and going to Uni. If I lived in Manly with George's cousins I would have the security of people living close by. After the chat with mum and once I had settled myself, I went for a walk to Darling Harbour and got some Maccas for dinner as I couldn't find anything else. I looked in on the IMAX theater but it was all a bit expensive. I asked the receptionist at Base if there was a normal cinema around and she directed me to the Event complex, which had many movie cinemas, an area for buying popcorn, a restaurant, a gaming area, a sushi train, and other shops. I went and had a look but the times and movies didn't suit so I planned to go the next evening. Back at Base I met my room mate: 2 nice Korean girls. I jumped into bed and listened to my music and thought. I think that once I'm studying I'll be okay. I'm already getting to know the city and once I have a home and some of my belongings it will be better. The course is superior. It's the reason I chose Sydney to begin with. I need to be stronger. I'm too timid. Tomorrow will be better.

Day 2. Saturday 28th August.
Last night's sleep was horrible. At midnight, 5 more Asians arrived at the room and the light was on and they were making noise and I couldn't sleep. It was horrid. Horrid horrid horrid. I tried to get a bit more rest before the Open Day once they left for the day but it didn't work. I looked so haggard thanks to them and my 3 or 4 hours sleep. I had a shower and felt better. The shower was nice. Those places always need more hanging room though. After I was ready I went to George Street for a croissant and a hot chocolate at a coffee shop. I used my phone's map and "Places" app to find it. It was a lifesaver. After breakfast I caught the bus to Uni. The campus was amazing, so old and huge, very historic and beautiful. The Open Day was great. So many people and balloons. I got a goodie bag with lots of information and talked to some people about museum studies but didn't get all of the information I needed as the day was more for undergraduates when I'm a postgraduate. I had a look in the Nicholson Museum and it was great. I didn't go on a tour or look at the residential colleges as the campus is too huge so instead I went for a walk towards Victoria Park and got stopped by an Australian Conservation Foundation worker, Pete, who signed me up for $30 a month to help their cause. He said I should go to Glebe for the markets and the park, really close by, so I did, and it was wonderful. Glebe is great. It reminded me much of South and North Hobart with the main street with everything happening. Apparently it has a large student population as it is so close to the Uni and not far from the city either. I got some Thai for lunch at Thai Space on the main road and I ate in the open window [those huge door windows] and looked out on to the street. I realised that it would be a fantastic suburb to live in and I could really picture it. After lunch I caught the bus back into the city [$2 each way not on a return city] and got off early to go to Paddy's Markets. It was in a huge warehouse and it reminded me of the Hobart Show with the setup. I bought some patterned stockings then went back to the city via Chinatown. I had a brief rest at Base then headed out for more shopping. I bought some crazy bright shoes at Footlocker and a skirt at Supre, but I didn't feel successful. I went back to Base again after that and talked to one of the Chinese ladies in my room. At first I assumed they were all Korean as the original 2 were but it shows how much I can't differentiate between the different Asian countries. After the chat I went to the bar next door, Scary Canairy, for a $5 meal of fish and chips and a $3.50 glass of Trevi champagne before heading to Event for the 640pm showing of Toy Story 3 3D. I felt smart wearing the glasses. Then it was back to Base again and I got into bed. I looked up rental properties in Glebe and found it was affordable but it would depend on the house and whether or not it had a laundry or shared bathroom. It will turn out well.

Day 3. Sunday 29th August.
I had a much better sleep today. I was late to get up and I needed to stay in bed that little bit longer. I went to Zibar, a cafe, on the way to Darling Harbour for breakfast. I ate in and had raisin toast and a hot chocolate [not a good one as it was yucky syrup and not powder] then headed towards the attractions. In Darling Harbour I got money out and walked around the area past the "Urban Street Stream" to the Chinese Garden of Friendship. The garden was lovely, and had wonderful ponds and huge half-meter fish [Carp, perhaps?] that looked like huge goldfish. It reminded me of my holiday with Yorick in Vanuatu. It got me thinking and made me a bit sad, as that was something I would share with him and it was depressing doing it alone. I missed having him there all the time, and that he always knew what was happening with me. Then again, someone is more worthy than him. Love will find me when I'm ready for it. I need to strengthen myself first so I don't lose myself when I'm in the forever relationship. I want the security of knowing I won't have to go looking for Mr. Right again once I've found him and have gotten married. That will be great. I know it's not the right time but walking around the garden made me miss Yorick and the holidays we shared. I miss having my boyfriend to travel with. It's the only way I really love it. Sigh. That's why the trip had been hard. After I had finished in the gardens I bought a necklace on the way out. I sat outside in the shade for a little while before heading to the Powerhouse Museum. I found it too huge! I did remember it from when I went with my parents and brother and sister when we were younger. After I was done I slowly walked back to Base, eating some chips on the way and feeling horrible about my body. After a nap at Base, I booked the next morning's shuttle bus to the airport for 610am. I then walked up to Circular Quay with the intention of getting a ferry but it was going to cost too much so I didn't do it. On the way there I bought the dress I looked at on the first day there and got it in the size smaller. It's really cute. Back at Base I wanted sushi for dinner. I looked at the movies options and realised I wanted to see Step Up 3D so I ran to Event, paid for my ticket, watched the movie, and found the sushi train on the way out. I got a roll each of avocado, cucumber and tuna. They were so yum. Step Up 3D made me want to enroll in a dance class to get fit and flexible so it's something I will look into in Hobart. Then it was bedtime. I found it hard to sleep as I had to get up at 515am to prepare for leaving. Knowing you have to get up early makes it hard to sleep.

Day 4. Monday 30th August.
After an early start, making a bit of noise in the back packer's on the way out, I waited outside for the shuttle bus and was getting anxious as it was late. Another crazy ride to the airport and I got a berry smoothie and some Maccas [egg muffin and a hash brown for $4] for breakfast before waiting in the gate lounge for the plane to arrive. Once we boarded, we had to wait a little while for the plane rush. We were waiting in line behind a few planes for them to leave the airport. Peak hour at the airport. Airports always remind me of where I've been and usually remind me of times spent with Yorick as he's the only one as an adult I have gone place with. Sad. The trip back was good. Was a bit late to Hobart but Sarah was there to meet me. We went to the Raincheck Lounge in North Hobart for some breakfast and had a great time. We eventually went to Margate and I was finally home.

I had a good time on the trip but didn't really find out all the information for the course I was hoping to get. I might only have do to 1 year there as I might be able to go straight into the Masters. However, there is a different HECS scheme I need to look into as I might have to pay up front but who has that kind of money!? I'll find it all out on the Graduate Options day later this month. It was fun though, and I loved seeing Glebe. All in all it was worthwhile.
